Damn Sebaceous Cyst is Back on my Back

So over the past 10 or so years I have occasionally (I think this is now the 4th time) developed a decent size cyst that of course in in the hardest spot to reach (right in the middle of my back just outside of my left shoulder blade. What I did in the past was just swab it down with an alcohol pad then lance it with an 18G needle to drain it. Then disinfected it again and packed it with gauze and it typically stayed away for a couple years. However it’s back! I tried the same method again but it’s a bit harder to reach this time by myself, so I had my wife stab me lol. But she was hesitant and was scared to actually hit it good. Have a regular doctor physical in about a week and hoping he can just lance it himself, though I could see him deferring me to a dermatologist. Anyone else dealt with this issue? Any suggestions aside from just seeing the good doctor to take care of it? I hear if it is surgically removed it will likely permanently not come back which would be ideal. @NeuroRN thoughts?

Just have your doc lance it. A derm may be able to remove in the office. I wouldn’t do it at home. Seen too many nurses do this shit and end up with picc line at home antibiotics and MRSA infection. If you must do it at home, betadine or chlorohexadine would be a must. That’s actually going to sterilize it. Too many variables at home in my opinion.

I just had 2 removed about 3 months ago, one the size of a plum and one the size of a marble… they smell absolutely horrid, but I’m pretty sure my doc was getting his rocks off on digging them out of my back

I had one removed from dermatologist. Took like 10 minutes. Said it could grow back but hasn’t yet. Been 15+ years now. Removed it right from her office.

I never have had a cyst before is it painful? What exactly is inside of a cyst is it a type of infection or just a growth?

I am glad that home surgery isn’t being considered lol

I had a mole I wanted removed and tried to cut it off myself it was a bad idea extremely painful lol

I wish you the best brother hopefully the doc says its an easy fix and it dissapears

Mine wasn’t painful but it aggravated me. I knew that it was there and it shouldn’t. Took awhile of me bitchin about before my doctor sent me somewhere to remove it.

Yeah they are actually pretty common especially on the back in areas that are harder to reach when showering. I think a lot of it is due to sweat from workouts and it just built up if you already are prone. Doesn’t hurt but can definitely feel the pressure as it is stretching my skin. In the past they just spontaneously ruptured…mainly a cloudy liquid with just a little blood. I poked one once and drained it that way but of course doing in dr office is best to avoid infection. Have appt next week so hopefully will get it completely removed. It’s no where near this but you can see some dr. Pimple popper videos of similar cysts. Some are ridiculous how much puss come out! And yeah it smells horrible when it is draining!

Lol yeah that smell is bad! Other thing I hate is it can be seen if wearing a tighter fitting t-shirt. Looks like I’m the hunchback of notre dame. That thing is definitely getting removed one way or another!

I’ve actually seen those commercials I have to turn away at some but I had no idea that they were caused by sweat or bacteria. Learn something new everyday at ugmuscle lol

Im glad that it doesn’t hurt I can only imagine the strange feeling of having your back stretch from that hopefully it gets gone at the doctor.

So update, just 4 days from the doc appointment to get it properly removed. Was doing heavy incline presses yesterday and when I loaded the weight I felt that sucker just explode. Not in a bad way really…as odd as it sounds it felt amazing and immediately saw about a 90% reduction in size. LOL. Had to change my shirt as it was soaked with just a bunch of dead cells trapped in fluid…very little blood. Still some stuff in there so keeping my appointment as I’m also due for my annual check-up.
